Psychosocial disability only  - Occupational Therapists play a critical role in helping people with disabilities to access appropriate housing and support through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

We conduct a thorough functional assessment to determine a clients support needs, whilst undertaking a review of their housing history, and completing a housing analysis of varying options which typically include the following:

  • Private rentals

  • Public and community housing

  • Supported residential services

  • Supported independent living (SIL) (people support)

  • Individualised living options (ILO)

  • Specialist disability accommodation (SDA)


Risk assessments are also completed as part of this process. This assists us to advocate for our clients support needs in finding suitable long term housing options that meet their needs.


Documentation includes:

  • A summary of the client’s current functional status and outlines existing support provided

  • Details pertaining to the clients housing history and justification as to why a high level of support is required to facilitate independence.

  • Identifies any ongoing support needs to maintain/maximise the client’s safety and independence within activities of daily living.

  • Recommendations which address the NDIS eligibility criteria in relation to the clients application, and outline appropriate supports to meet their needs.

  • A summary of recommendations with regards to capacity building supports to be considered within in the next NDIS plan.
